- General defensive mechanisms that produce a quick response and are effective on a wide range of pathogens
- This type of immunity has no memory of prior infection and cannot differentiate between different pathogens, therefore the same response occurs for each foreign invader.
- The 1st line and 2nd line of defenses are examples of this as they both detect and target pathogens regardless of their type.
