Specific/acquired immunity

- Specific immunity is that which targets specific pathogens once they have been detected and identified
- It is adapted/acquired by the individual organism
- A memory of specific pathogens and how they are able to be killed are made so if the pathogen enters again a secondary response will be able to be produced more quickly and efficiently.
- This immunity is generally long lasting due to a memory being made of specific pathogens.
- The 3rd line of defense is a specific response.
